Samsung News app is ready to hit more markets

Back in April, the South Korean tech firm redesigned the Samsung Free app. The app was renamed Samsung News. It is basically a content aggregation platform. Some recent pieces of information suggest that the company is now ready to introduce the rebranded app to more markets. In April, the company released the rebranded app for the US users. However, the company didn’t unveil any further information about the app launch in other regions. Some shreds of evidence now indicate that the News app will soon come to Europe.

The tech company has filed a new application at the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). This kind of confirms its app launching in more markets. The application also shows the new icon of the app. The section on “Goods and Services” talks about “computer software for users to share daily information to provide interactive and personalized intelligence.”

Users can find content in three different ways on the Samsung News app. These are presented in the form of Daily Briefings, News Feeds, and Podcasts. In the USA, the content providers for the Samsung News app include CNN, Fortune, Fox News, Sports Illustrated, Bloomberg Media, USA TODAY, Vice, and others. However, the recent trademark application doesn’t specify the partners that will be providing content for Samsung News in Europe.

Although the IT giant has a long history with its Google Discover rival, it remains to be seen whether the “News” renaming and revamp will be successful. Initially known as Bixby Home, Samsung debuted its interactive content aggregation home screen for Galaxy handsets. The website was eventually renamed Samsung Daily before becoming Samsung Free. The name has changed to Samsung News, which, if anything, should be less ambiguous and better convey what the app does.
