This week, there was a widespread outage of Samsung Pay in South Korea. However, Samsung acknowledged that there are “intermittent delays in biometric authentication while attempting to pay with Samsung Pay. We’ll make every effort to act as soon as we can. Moreover, the company shared that there was a software error that reportedly occurred during an app update procedure. Although the problem was addressed shortly, still several users were unable to make payments for some time.
Samsung Pay nearly accounts for 24% of the market in South Korea. Definitely, an outage would have impacted several consumers. There are some users who completely depend on Samsung Pay instead of using credit cards or cash. Furthermore, the company is working hard to hold its dominance in the South Korean market given the fact that Apple Pay has been recently introduced in the country. Besides this, some reports indicate that Samsung could introduce Samsung Pay to Galaxy Watches in South Korea, a clear indication that the company is reacting to Apple Pay’s existence in the market.
