Samsung Pay experiences a nationwide outage

The South Korean conglomerate introduced its mobile payment service initially in its hometown. Followed by this, the company debuted the service in the international market. Samsung Pay mobile payments service by Samsung is operating for years and holds millions of users, particularly from South Korea.

Trouble or outage can be troublesome for users who rely on the payment service every single day. Well, this is what happened with Samsung Pay in South Korea. Reportedly, Samsung Pay faced an outage in the country earlier this week. Some consider it to be the worst time for this problem as Apple has recently introduced its payment service in South Korea.

This week, there was a widespread outage of Samsung Pay in South Korea. However, Samsung acknowledged that there are “intermittent delays in biometric authentication while attempting to pay with Samsung Pay. We’ll make every effort to act as soon as we can. Moreover, the company shared that there was a software error that reportedly occurred during an app update procedure. Although the problem was addressed shortly, still several users were unable to make payments for some time.

Samsung Pay nearly accounts for 24% of the market in South Korea. Definitely, an outage would have impacted several consumers. There are some users who completely depend on Samsung Pay instead of using credit cards or cash. Furthermore, the company is working hard to hold its dominance in the South Korean market given the fact that Apple Pay has been recently introduced in the country. Besides this, some reports indicate that Samsung could introduce Samsung Pay to Galaxy Watches in South Korea, a clear indication that the company is reacting to Apple Pay’s existence in the market.
