Galaxy AI is set to come to Samsung smartphones

Samsung is still giving few details about Galaxy AI, but promises that the AI system in the style of ChatGPT should be able to enable “barrier-free communication, simplified productivity, and unlimited creativity”. Among other things, Galaxy AI is intended to provide a comprehensive range of tools with which AI tasks can be processed both on the end device itself and via cloud servers.

Ultimately, Samsung wants to use Galaxy AI to offer similar features to those that Google has already introduced with its Pixel 8 series smartphones. The goal is for AI to finally be widely used on smartphones in order to permanently change the way the devices are used, announced Wonjoon Choi, executive vice president and head of research and development in Samsung’s mobile device division, in a blog post.

The range of functions of Galaxy AI has not yet been demonstrated in detail by Samsung. However, at an event on artificial intelligence topics in Seoul, the company showed how a function called “Live Translate Call” can translate telephone conversations in real-time, making communication with foreign-language contacts much easier.

Live Translate Call will soon give “the latest Galaxy AI smartphones” a personal translator, it said. The feature will be integrated into the native calling function, which means you no longer have to use a third-party app, Samsung continued. What is apparently meant is that the Samsung Galaxy S24 series smartphones, expected on January 17, 2024, will be launched with the new live translation function and other AI features.
