Samsung’s upcoming OLED display could have a peak brightness of 2,500 nits

The South Korean tech giant unveiled the latest OLED panels for smartphones. Reportedly, the OLED panel can reach 2,000 nits of peak brightness under specific conditions. Interestingly, this panel is already utilized in the iPhone 14 series. Additionally, some other Android smartphones besides Samsung utilize this panel. It now appears that the company is working on the development of next-gen OLED panels that can offer even high brightness.

The tipster Connor has come forward with some exciting news. According to the tipster, the tech firm Samsung is all set to introduce an OLED panel that could reach up to 2,500 nits of peak brightness. In addition to this, the tipster ShrimpApplePro, states that this panel could be utilized in the iPhone 15 Pro Max expected to be released later this year. Such a tech would contribute to improvement in outdoor visibility as well as realism in HDR content.

Besides all this, one thing that needs attention over here is that the brightness measured in nits is actually measured on a logarithmic scale. Based on this fact, it can be said that 2,500 nits won’t be perceptibly 25% brighter than 2,000 nits. For this reason, the apparent difference in brightness would be lower in contrast to what the number suggests.  

The tech firm Samsung usually releases fresh OLED panels with the smartphones of Galaxy S or Galaxy Note series. However, Apple was the first company to utilize the 2,000 nits OLED screens manufactured by Samsung Display. Do note that the same panel is not used by the Samsung XM division in the latest flagship series, the Galaxy S23. So, it could happen that Galaxy S24 won’t either utilize the 2,500 nits screen.

With each generation of the OLED panel, Samsung is moving a step ahead in the competition. It is just outclassing the competitors like (Chinese) and LG Display (Korean). In addition to this, the company is also working on the development of MicroLED displays that will be utilized in the future Apple Watch Ultra.
