Saudi Arabia Banned Photos and Videos at Khana-e-Kaaba and Masjid-e-Nabwi

Saudi Arabia has banned taking pictures and making videos at the two Holy Mosques in Makkah and Madinah, few days after the selfies of an Israeli citizen went viral and created chaos and drew heavy criticism on social websites.

The decision to ban taking photos and videos in Khana-e-Kaaba and Masjid-e-Nabwi was launched on the 12^th of November by the Foreign Ministry of Saudia as per the Kingdom’s Directorate General of Press and Information.

According to the reports of BBC—Ben Tzion—a Russian born had a prior history of posting photos and images of religious places throughout the Middle East from Iran to Jordan. The image he posted on his Facebook page showed him inside the Masjid-e-Nabwi.

In one of his Facebook post, he wrote that the people of the Kingdom of Saudi Arab would stand side by side with the Jewish people.

Another post stated relating the encouragement of peace in the Middle East with respect and love towards each other.

The ban imposed is to secure and preserve the holy sites as per the statement. The photo and video making restriction are also applicable around the neighbouring areas of the mosques.

Another major reason of the ban is the disturbance among the worshippers at the mosques as cited by the Saudi authorities.

The statement further mentions that in case the ban is violated in any way the gadget being used for taking photos and making videos would be confiscated and legal action would be taken against the individual.

This ban is imposed so that the people may carry out their worship in a much focused and healthier way, without any distractions.

Non-Muslims are strictly not allowed to enter the premises of Makkah and Central Madinah.
