Scarlet Skips: New indie game on Steam is causing discussions

Scarlet Skips was released on Steam last week. The solo developer title focuses on one scenario: a woman jumping rope in the park.
The story is quickly explained: Scarlet has apparently reached a low point in her life. While she is realizing exactly that, her vacuum robot gets caught in a skipping rope. She probably had a lot of fun jumping rope, which is why she sees the rope as a little revelation and a wake-up call. From this point, it’s only a few seconds left to the game’s main setting: a cozy corner in the park populated by birds who don’t seem to mind Scarlet much. But a lot of people were bothered by Scarlet Skips over the past weekend. At first glance, the game, which costs 5.19 euros, is very simple: all you need to do is press a mouse button or the space bar to make Scarlet jump. But the simple mechanics were not the reason for the extensive discussions on the Internet. Rather, the visual appeal of Scarlet, which the developer showcased, was the issue.
In youth language one would probably speak of a “Gooner game”. In two scenes in particular, Scarlet’s femininity is brought to the fore, although it is difficult to concentrate on it in the game itself. Because: Scarlet Skips is quite difficult. If you don’t press the space bar or the left mouse button at the right moment, Scarlet will fall and the round is over. As soon as you’ve made a mistake, you have to start from scratch, says our Timm Mohn.
Not a high-flyer game
Graphically, Scarlet Skips is not a demanding game. The skipping rope itself clips through the floor and would certainly have attracted many game critics’ attention. While the developer is grateful for any feedback, this bug is discussed far less than the fact that Scarlet is a pretty woman whose body moves when she jumps rope. Ironically, higher levels are achieved primarily by concentrating on Scarlet’s foot region in order to jump in time.
Scarlet Skips will not be a milestone in gaming history. However, the online discussion about the game and the attention it garnered should justify the game being expanded to include DLCs in the future. Other locations would certainly be possible. However, for starters, it would be nice if the developer fixed minor issues such as the long waiting times after a fall. The rope clipping into the ground should be at the top of the bug fix list.
