Several companies wanted to buy Nuvia possibly to bolster their chip efforts

Some ex-employees of Google and Apple build a startup that was known as Nuvia. Nubia was already working on the development of ARM silicon. This initiative grabbed the attention of several companies. Every big name wanted to take over the startup in order to compete with rivals. Given this perspective, last year Qualcomm purchased Nuvia. The purpose of purchasing Nuvia by Qualcomm can be reflected in better competition with Apple. One official from Nuvia was thought to be the Chief Architect of Apple’s project i.e., the Silicon M1 chipset.

This information is quite interesting since every company was looking for its own benefit. According to some reports, even Google was interested in taking over the startup Nuvia. Of course that could be only for its Tensor chips. Google has put in its efforts for Tensor chips. Thus indicating that it has some sort of control over the SoC in its pixel smartphones. But on the other hand, having a custom design with ARM cores would likely result in more control by the company. Since it would no longer have to rely on Samsung and its Exynos chipsets. In addition to this, some reports point out that two co-founders of Nuvia have worked at Google previously. Of these two officials, one was hired for working as the Lead SoC architect. This SoC could be the tensor.

Given these facts and information, we can witness the achievement of Nuvia in form of the Oryon chips. These chips are expected to be utilized in high-end PCs and laptops. In a statement, a spokesman from Nuvia shared the following information the custom CPU was initially started by Nuvia engineers. After Qualcomm took over, the engineers at Qualcomm completed the custom CPU.

Although these words depict that two different organizations work on the project. But in reality, after the acquisition of Nuvia by Qualcomm, the Nuvia engineers become Qualcomm engineers. In contrast, if the startup was purchased by Google it would have been reflected in the next Pixelbook. Since the team was familiar with the best practices for developing an SoC. Or it could have resulted in the production of Tensor SoC.

Besides all this, the acquisition of Nuvia by Qualcomm was not an easy task. Since the company has been sued by ARM. ARM claims that Qualcomm is trying to utilize the current ARM license of Nuvia. In addition to this, ARM declared that the licenses are non-transferable via the acquisition of any given company.
However, Qualcomm has stated that it has unique ARM licenses that allow the utilization of custom processes
