Sony Starts PS5 Covers Sale

PS5 Colors

One day earlier than planned, Sony is now starting to sell its own PS5 covers. The side covers of the next-gen console, which are initially available in black and red, will be offered exclusively via the PlayStation Direct store at a price of 55 Euros until mid-February.

Following a dispute with US faceplate retailer Dbrand, Sony announced the availability of its own PS5 side covers back in December, with sales set to start on January 21, 2022. Now the company is making a bit of an early start. The so-called console covers are already sold in the colors Midnight Black and Cosmic Red. The DualSense controller of the PlayStation 5 is also available in the same colors.

Promised Colors Are There

Analogous to the already available, colorful gamepads, the color selection of the PS5 console covers is also to be expanded soon with Nova Pink, Starlight Blue, and Galactic Purple. The Japanese are talking about availability in the course of the first half of 2022. The prices should be the same as those of the current faceplates – Sony charges 54.99 Euros for a pair. Currently, the purchase is only possible via the online store PlayStation Direct possible. However, the covers should also make their way to Amazon, Media Markt, and Saturn from February 18, 2022.

To change the PS5 covers, the side covers only have to be lifted slightly and pushed out towards the bottom of the console. Since they are not screwed in, no further tools are required. In the same breath, it would be advisable for PlayStation 5 owners to install an additional SSD in M.2 format to expand the storage for games and co. Among others, the Samsung 980 Pro and the WD Black SN850 are popular and compatible. Both are sold with and without a heat sink starting at about 150 Euros for 1 TB of storage.
