Sony updates the PlayStation account to support passkeys

The significance and adoptions of Passkeys is increasing with every passing day. Recently, we learned that Google added Passkey support to several products. Now, there is another tech giant taking over the initiative for Passkey support. According to some recent pieces of information, Sony has announced the passkey support for PlayStation accounts.

According to an X/Twitter post, Sony unveiled that users can now access their PlayStation accounts with passkeys. The business also shared on a support page that passkey support will be offered on PlayStation devices, PlayStation apps, and the PlayStation website (via MacRumors).

After creating a passkey for their PlayStation account, users can access it from their Android phone by utilizing device pin/pattern/password and biometric identification, like a fingerprint scanner, to confirm their identity. You can use Face ID, Touch ID, and device passcode to log in if you own an iPhone.

As compared to passwords, Passkeys are believed to be more convenient and secure. The Passkey support is available on several operating systems like Android 9 and latest, iOS 16 and latest, iPadOS 16 and the recent versions, and MacOS Ventura and new versions. Recently, several tech giants like Microsoft, Google, PayPal, Best Buy, and eBay added the support for passkeys to their products.
