Sony will soon introduce a new online-only PlayStation handheld

Game lovers have been anticipating a new PlayStation handheld from Sony for years. it appears like finally it is going to change. Some recent pieces of information from Insider Gaming indicate that Sony is working on a new PlayStation handheld. However, it couldn’t be the thing users have been eagerly waiting for. The new device will be online only. Thus, indicating that users must have an internet connection to use it. The report suggests that the device is named Q Lite. It will possibly be a Remote Play handheld for the PS5 console.

During the last few years, Cloud gaming has seen a decent rise. Several cloud gaming platforms like Google’s now defunct Stadia service, and various current options like GeForce Now, Luna, and Game Pass exist. Of course, there’s Sony’s Remote Play. Although it is present for years, it has not witnessed huge growth. The company, however, believes that it will change with time.

Sony has been promoting remote Play for a long. The Q Lite is specifically designed for playing games remotely. It will be provided with support for adaptive streaming. It will offer 1080p resolution and up to 60 frames per second. The hardware of the device consists of an 8-inch touchscreen panel. The panel is located in the middle of a DualSense-style controller. It features adaptive triggers like volume adjustment, audio input, and others.

Q Lite will be released before the PS5 Pro

Some previous reports suggested that Sony will introduce a PS5 Pro. It could be introduced in 2024. In this scenario, the company will debut the Q Lite before it. However, there is no actual date as to when it will be released. It is also rumored that the Q Lite is in its QA phase. We could hear something about it from the company in the next big PlayStation showcase.
