Spotify is expanding its audio book offer: After successful tests, premium users in several European countries can now choose between two new additional subscriptions that offer more flexibility in audio book streaming.
After successful tests in Ireland and Canada, Spotify Premium users in Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria and Liechtenstein have now also access to two new additional subscriptions that offer more flexibility in audiobook streaming. The first new option is called “Audiobooks+” and is aimed at premium individual users and the main users of family and duo subscriptions. This additional package unlocks 15 additional hours of audio book time per month. So far, premium users in Germany, Austria and Switzerland have only been available for twelve hours of audiobook period per month.
The second variant, “Audiobooks+ for Plan Members”, aims especially on members of family and duo subscriptions. For the first time, other users within this subscription can access audio books, so far this was only possible for the main user. As Spotify reports, family members must apply for access to the plan manager who can unlock the add-on for them. If necessary, a one-time ten-hour additional package is also available if the monthly hearing time should be used up before the next billing cycle.
Spotify’s audio book catalog now comprises 375,000 titles. In contrast to Amazon subsidiary Audible, where individual titles are bought, Spotify relies on a time contingent model. The streaming service also sees another growth chance in AI and works with Eleven Labs to have more books set to music, including the translation of texts from English into other languages. The prices for the new additional subscriptions have not yet been officially announced. Users in the relevant markets can find out more at Spotify.com/audiobooks. So far, however, the new add-on offer has not yet been activated-at least it has not yet been seen with us after the log-in.
