Steam Deck: Valve Lists The Console with a Switch Emulator

With the Steam Deck, Valve has been offering a handheld console for some time, which is also intended to compete with the Nintendo Switch. With the help of emulators like Yuzu, it is possible to run games from the Japanese publisher on the Steam Deck. However, Valve has not officially emphasized this so far, since emulators are in a legal gray area and it does not exactly speak for your own console if users only buy the hardware for games on a foreign platform.

Since the device is now available to purchase without prior reservation, Valve has released a new Steam Deck trailer detailing each of the console’s features. In the nearly three-minute commercial, the Yuzu emulator icon can be seen on the home screen. This shows that there is an option to play Switch titles on the Steam Deck.

Replaced video with a new trailer

The commercial was probably only released by accident. After a short time, the original version of the video was removed and replaced by a new trailer. Here, the Yuzu logo has been replaced with a cover of the game “Portal 2”. On the other hand, it’s conceivable that Valve intentionally uploaded the clip with the Switch emulator’s logo for greater reach.

Yuzu is a free, open-source emulator that is actually legally available. However, in order to be able to play Switch games on the Steam Deck, users must load the files onto the console. While providing and downloading copyrighted games is legally problematic, the images can also be created yourself. Of course, this assumes that the user already owns a switch and the corresponding title.
