Street Fighter: The new trailer is here

For fans of fighting games, 2026 could be a really good year for cinema, because alongside Mortal Kombat 2, Street Fighter is also trying to conquer the big screen. The official trailer for the latter has now arrived – and it promises a deliberately over-the-top martial arts spectacle.

A fateful tournament

The plot of Street Fighter takes place in 1993 and is, unsurprisingly, quickly summarized. The focus is on two estranged fighters Ryu (played by Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo), who each have to confront their own past when they are drawn into the next World Warrior tournament by Chun-Li (Callina Liang). It quickly becomes clear to the two of them that there is much more at stake in the competition than initially assumed. The preview suggests that the power-obsessed M. Bison (David Dastmalchian) has a hand in this time too. But his exact plans still remain a mystery.

Arcade action in the cinema

Be it the true-to-original costumes, signature moves like Ruys Hadouken and Zangief’s Russian Suplex, the iconic ring announcer voice or a destroyed car: the trailer makes it clear that Street Fighter is closely based on its original and never takes it seriously. In addition to Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li and M. Bison, many other well-known characters let their fists fly in the film, namely Akuma (Roman Reigns), Guile (Cody Rhodes), Cammy (Mel Jarnson), Dhalsim (Vidyut Jammwal), Balrog (50 Cent), Blanka (Jason Momoa), Dan Hibiki (Andrew Schulz), Vega (Orville Peck), Zangief (Olivier Richters), E. Honda (Hirooki Goto), Juli (Rayna Vallandingham) and Joe (Alexander Volkanovski). Street Fighter was directed by Kitao Sakurai and will be released in cinemas in EU on October 15, 2026.
