In the legal battle between Apple and Qualcomm, all the biggest tech tycoons have sided with Apple. The supporters of Apple include Intel, Google, Microsoft, and Facebook.
All these tech giants have filed their opinions that not allowing Apple to import its phone that has Intel Corp chips instead of Qualcomm chips would damage Apple financially and technically at a major scale.
This fight between Apple and Qualcomm has been going on since seven months. Qualcomm CEO Steve Mollenkopf said that settling with Apple outside the court is still a possibility. Now that all tech companies are taking side with Apple it seems that a deal is quite possible between the two.
It all started when Apple filed against Qualcomm claiming that the chipmaker is charging more for selling basic patents. After this, there has been a series of fights and clashes as Qualcomm accused Apple of breaching contracts.
Intel the rival company of Qualcomm has also said that this uncompetitive behavior of Qualcomm is not a great sign.
The exact words of Intel filing in the court are
“Qualcomm did not initiate this investigation to stop the alleged infringement of its patent rights; rather, its complaint is a transparent effort to stave off lawful competition from Qualcomm’s only remaining rival. This twisted use of the Commission’s process is just the latest in a long line of anticompetitive strategies that Qualcomm has used to quash incipient and potential competitors and avoid competition on the merits.”
This legal battle with Apple has hurt both the companies but especially Qualcomm. Shares of Qualcomm went down by 20%.
