The ability to root current and future Zenfones is reportedly being killed by ASUS

According to some recent pieces of information, ASUS is retracting the ability to root its smartphones. Rooting and bootloader are two terms with the same meaning. Recently, a consumer was told that ASUS phones lack the ability to unlock the bootloader. The customer support department of the company reported that the current and future phones won’t feature the ability to root.

If we go into details, then it becomes clear that the device in question was the Zenfone 9. The Zenfone 9 and Zenfone 10 cannot be unlocked, according to the email from ASUS support to the consumer. There isn’t a single method that works for all Android phone rooting situations. However, ASUS is one of the companies whose phones support the company’s own unlocking tool.

Previously, the company claimed that the tool would be updated for the Zenfone 10. The updated tool will be available to consumers by the third quarter of this year. But given the above-mentioned information, it appears like it won’t happen. One thing to notice here is that unlocking the bootloader can be risky; however, it provides several options for customizing Android devices.

From this perspective, the news is quite unpleasant for ASUS consumers. What ASUS is saying to Zenfone consumers on its other platforms seems to differ from what it is telling Zenfone customers. According to a Reddit user, the company’s developer liaison on its Telegram channel is unaware of any such development. The Reddit user reports that the developer claims that the tool is under maintenance and will be available by Q3 this year.
