The basic ad-free plan of Netflix is no longer available in the US and UK

Back in 2022, in order to attract more consumers Netflix introduced a cheap ad-supported plan. This one saved a few dollars per month and shared the majority of features with its basic $10 ad-free tier. As of now, a report from Engadget indicates that the company has abandoned its basic ad-free plan in the United States and the United Kingdom.

Well, this is not surprising at all. Since the company just recently terminated its basic tier in Canada, there was no official information regarding this change. The users in Canada currently have access to only three different payment options.

Netflix terminates its basic ad-free plan in more regions

Well, there is no information on whether the company will terminate the plan in other markets or not. The company is advancing its approach with ad-supported plans. Alongside this, the company is terminating the ad-free plan. Well, the ad-free is no longer available and it is obvious.

But you don’t need to worry about one scenario. You won’t be changed to a different plan by Netflix. Until you choose another membership, you’ll keep your current one. Following that, you won’t be able to return to the fundamental plan. So, you can stick with the strategy for as long as you like. However, don’t be shocked if the company compels you to switch a few years down the road.

We don’t know what the company is up to. But we have some speculations to share that should be taken with a grain of salt. Well, we all know that plans at cheap rates are not a huge success, even if it is ad-supported. It seems like the company is facing a loss with the ad-supported plan. The company can increase the prices in the future or get rid of the basic ad-free plan entirely. The reverse case might be that the company could add more ads for additional revenue.
