The development of Apple’s mixed reality headset is taken over by Chinese suppliers

Foxconn and Pegatron are the Taiwanese suppliers of the tech firm Apple. We already know that Apple is working on the mixed reality headset. A recent report indicates that Apple might switch towards the Chinese company Luxshare instead of the Taiwanese suppliers. Reportedly, the company could collaborate with Luxshare to develop its first mixed-reality headset.

For a long time, the company has depended on Taiwanese suppliers given its first-gen products. However, if the recent information is correct then the company seems to be shifting its trend. Luxshare is soon going to supervise the development team in Shanghai, as per the report from Nikkei Asia. Previously, the development team was led by Pegatron. This piece of information is based on five different anonymous sources familiar with this issue.

As per the report, Apple is working on the development of an augmented reality headset. Yes, the company is working on augmented reality in contrast to mixed reality. It appears that the report pinpoints the headset that will be revealed at WWDC. During the span of four years, Pegatron has worked in close association with Apple. However, the period of collaboration is not continuous. It was an on-and-off experience, as per the report. In accordance with a supply chain official, Pegatron was not convinced about its headset plan with Apple. For this reason, the company abandoned the project and shifted its focus to work on other applications.

Well, on the other hand, the shift towards Luxshare is not a surprise. Since Apple has already collaborated with Chinese companies for iPhones, Apple Watch, and AirPods. In addition to this, some sources claim that Foxconn is set for working on the development of a cheaper second-gen headset in parallel.  It will work on mass production as well as lower the cost of production.
