The Galaxy Note 20 series will receive a security update in December 2023

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Lineup

Samsung is now prioritizing the One UI 6 upgrade, which is based on Android 14, but it is also finding time to update numerous Galaxy devices with security patches. Samsung released the December 2023 security patch earlier this week, and the Galaxy S23 series was the first to receive it.

The Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra are now receiving the December update. After Android 13 and One UI 5.1, Samsung’s last two Note-branded phones will not be receiving any significant OS updates; however, they are still receiving monthly security updates from Samsung, the most recent of which addresses multiple vulnerabilities found in One UI and Android.

The December update for the Galaxy Note 20 is as dull as they come

There are seventy-five patches for identified security vulnerabilities in the December patch. Of those, Google has released 54 updates for the stock Android OS, and 16 of those address vulnerabilities specific to Samsung software. Samsung’s semiconductor business has released four patches to address vulnerabilities that affected devices that included certain Exynos chips, such as the W920 Exynos chip, which is used in Samsung’s smartwatches.

It should come as no surprise that the most recent Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra upgrades offer nothing more. It is currently only being released in a few South American countries and has a firmware version that ends in HWL1, but a larger rollout shouldn’t be too far off. On your Galaxy Note 20 or Note 20 Ultra, go to Settings > Software Update to download the update.
