The Galaxy S24 series might receive longer software support

Smartphone companies are showing their cards for the software support policy. Last week, we learned that Google will extend seven years of software updates to its Pixel smartphones. As of now, we have come across the information that the South Korean tech firm Samsung might upgrade its software policy as well.

Currently, Samsung extends 4 years of OS updates and 5 years of security patch updates to its devices between the midpoint and the end of the month. This prompt rollout procedure has undoubtedly benefited from the company’s significant investment in it. Just recently, the company rolled out the October 2023 security patch to its midrange Galaxy A54.

Similarly, the company rolled out Android 13 with OneUI 5 to most of their mid-range and premium devices before last year’s end. Perhaps the company will keep up its strategy this year too, as the Galaxy S23 series has received the 6th update of OneUI 6 beta.

The present picture concerning software support

Google entered the group after the iPhones, which released five significant iOS updates. In order to maintain its position in this regard, it appears that this same incident has prompted Samsung to begin discussions about revamping its update strategy. Last week, in San Francisco, Samsung conducted its annual developer conference.

At the developer conference, a business representative specifically discussed the security updates. But this industry has certain unique characteristics. According to past experience, it is realistic to assume that Samsung devices will likely receive OS upgrades in the foreseeable future for at least six and possibly seven years. if this happens, then the new policy will come into effect with the Galaxy S24 series which is expected to launch between January to February 2024.
