The Google Play Store hides the version of apps

The version number of an application is no longer visible in the Google Play Store. Instead, we just have the date of the last update. An extremely curious choice by Google that removes so valuable information from the user.

Sometimes Google makes strange, even incomprehensible choices. The pick of the day falls into this category. These are applications from the Play Store. The Mountain View company hides the version number of the affected software.

In Android’s Google Play Store, go to a software’s page and tap “about app” or “about this game” to see the app number. This is no longer possible this entry is simply deleted.

Google hides app version numbers

This change seems to only affect the beta of the Play Store in its US version for now, as we can always see this information in Europe. It should be here soon though. From now on the only valid information about the follow-up of the application is in the date of the last update, shown at the top. Note that the web version of the Play Store currently always displays the version number for Americans.

The reason for this removal was not given by Google as users discovered it by accident. The 9to5Google site even dares to speculate on the subject, claiming it could be a bug rather than an intentional removal, even if the chances are slim. In any case, this revocation doesn’t really make sense as it deprives the user of valuable information about the applications he is trying to download.

This data is all the more amazing which Google is currently trying to fight at all costs against applications that are deceptive or plagiarism or contain anti-virus software. So removing the version number removes a tool from the user. It only remains to wait for a statement from the California giant on this subject, and possibly the re-emergence of version numbers if it is indeed a bug.
