The Matter is now compatible with Google Home, Android, and Google Nest devices

Google announced via its blog post that Google Home, Android, and Google nest devices are now compatible with Matter. The devices that have received the support for matter include Google Home, Google Home Mini, Nest Hub Max, Nest Hub (1st and 2nd gen), Nest Mini, Nest Audio, and Nest Wi-Fi Pro.

The support for Matter on Google Nest and Google Home will be provided via a firmware update. The update will be installed on its own. whereas Android smartphones and tablets will receive Matter support via an upgrade to the Google Home app for the platform. This indicates that as soon the Google Home app on Android devices is either installed or updated, it will operate with Matter-compatible smart home devices.

The Matter has been regarded as a new connectivity standard for smart homes. It has been co-developed by several companies across the globe. These companies range from Google, Apple, and Amazon, to Samsung and others. The Matter is maintained via Connectivity Standards Alliance [CSA]. The Matter is aimed at providing easier connection of smart home devices across distinct brands.

Since now Google devices feature Matter support, users can utilize them to either set up or connect to respective Matter-enabled smart home products. Furthermore, Fast Pair on Android has also received support for Matter from Google. It enables the users to connect Matter-enabled devices to their home network as soon as they pair a set of earphones.

A few months back, Samsung and Google declared the integration of Google Home SmartThings with the Multi-Admin features of Matter. It permits users to control smart products, set up via Google Home. Moreover, they could be controlled with Samsung SmartThings and vice versa.

Now, Google has stated that it is working in close association with Samsung to present an enhanced Multi-Admin feature as of 2023. In addition to this, iOS support for the Google Home app will be added by Google. It also mentioned that users will get to witness more Matter-enabled smart products in early 2023.
