The New Microsoft Teams Is Delayed According To The Roadmap

Once again, Microsoft is adjusting the timeline for the release of the new teams. If the newly developed and more powerful version actually leaves the public preview at the end of September, there are now apparently slight delays.

Good things take time

At the beginning of July, Microsoft Office customers were informed about a significantly faster distribution of the new team. Contrary to the message in the Microsoft 365 admin center, it seems that you have to wait longer. The design and performance update for the collaboration software should not be rolled out in September, but only in the course of October.

The launch, delayed by a few weeks, comes from an updated entry in the Microsoft 365 Roadmap, which promises general availability for Windows desktops, Apple iOS, MacOS, Google Android, and for the web. Since the Redmond company speaks of a “start of the introduction” in October 2023, distribution in waves can be assumed.

This could last weeks or even months until the update reaches the last user. However, a starting signal in the course of the fourth quarter of 2023 seems realistic, in line with the Windows 11 23H2 update.

New look, improved performance

The new Microsoft Teams is currently available for public preview, independent of Insider programs and beta channels. Since July, the “Try the new teams” button has also been released for a broad mass of users.

The newly developed version is already proving to be comparatively stable and error-resistant in its test phase, which means that the early change could also be worthwhile for productive systems. A return to the old version is currently possible at any time. In the long run, however, the new Teams app will be introduced as the standard.

The Redmond company promises improvements in four core areas – speed, performance, flexibility, and intelligence. The new team should halve its storage requirements and accelerate the app and meeting starts by a factor of two. At the same time, Microsoft gives its software an optical makeover.

The updated Windows 11 mica and motion design tries to simplify and streamline the presentation of channels (channels), chats, navigation, symbols, and presentations – this is the intention of the designers.

It remains to be seen whether Microsoft can keep the planned release date in October. Since the company’s roadmap is known to never be set in stone, further delays cannot be ruled out.
