The picture-in-picture mode for Google Chrome Custom Tabs is now available

The Custom Chrome Tabs are a part of the Google Chrome for Android. These tabs can be used by developers to offer a web browser experience in apps. Gmail is one example that utilizes this feature. An email client will launch a webpage in Chrome Custom Tabs when you click on a link to a website. According to some recent pieces of information, the Chrome Custom Tabs have been updated with a useful new feature.

The new report from 9To5Google suggests that the users can now use Chrome Custom Tabs in the Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode. This feature is available in the latest stable version of Chrome for Android (v122). To put it simply, when you open an email in Gmail and click on a link to a webpage, the webpage opens in Chrome Custom Tabs. But now you can reduce that webpage into a PiP window to free up space on your phone’s screen for other activities.

In order to access this feature, click on the downward-facing button. This button can be found at the top-left corner of the screen beside the back button. The webpage will turn into a PiP window. It will appear in the bottom-right corner of the screen with details like name, domain, and logo of the website. Users can either resize it, or move it left or right depending on their choice. In order to access the fullscreen mode, click on the fullscreen icon. Click ‘x’ button to close it.

The publication notes that the feature is not available to all users right now. Currently, there are no details on when this feature will be available to all users. However, we can expect it to arrive within the next few weeks.
