The world’s first 10G symmetrical multi-gigabit internet connection was successfully tested by Comcast

Comcast declared that it has potentially tested a symmetrical multi-gigabit DOCSIS 4.0 connection on its live network successfully. This achievement makes Comcast a step closer to the target of providing 10G-enabled services by the second half of 2023.

The technology that permits internet service providers to provide high-speed internet across the existing cable TV networks is known as DOCSIS, or Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification. DOCSIS 4.0 is the recent version of this technology. Thus, allowing 10Gbps and 6Gbps of download and upload speeds, respectively. As of January, Comcast successfully tested more than 4Gbps speed in both directions in a lab test.

The successful testing of the symmetrical multi-gigabit DOCSIS 4.0 connection is a major achievement for Comcast. Since the company is focusing on introducing 10G-enabled services to its consumers. 10G [10 gigabits per second ] is considerably faster in contrast to the present offered speeds by most internet service providers. Where the current internet speed range between 100 to 1,000 megabits per second (Mbps).

The symmetrical speeds for both uploads and downloads indicate that consumers could upload and download data at similar ultra-fast speeds. This is particularly beneficial for users who upload extensive files. 10G rollout will enhance internet speeds for users in regions where fiber optic technology is unavailable.

Elad Nafshi, EVP and Chief Network Officer at Comcast Cable state that by the start of the year Comcast announced that it will test the world’s first 10G modem tech having the capacity of providing multi-gig speeds. As of now, this has become a reality. This new technology has the capacity to modify the internet as we know it currently.

This way Comcast would be able to generate even more revenue from existing subscribers. The payment plans will align with the future plans of the company. Moreover, Comcast revealed that the prices for internet and cable will increase by the following month. It will cover the average national increment by 3.8%.
