There will be seven years of OS updates for the Galaxy Z Fold 6

During the launch of the Galaxy S24 series, Samsung revealed that the smartphones will receive seven years of Android and One UI updates. After this announcement, many of us are wondering which other Samsung devices will receive the same software support. Sadly, fans did not receive the response they had hoped for: Samsung has officially said that no Galaxy tablet or smartphone released prior to the Galaxy S24 will receive upgrades for seven years. Currently, Galaxy devices are eligible for four years of OS upgrades and five years of security updates.

Now the question is what will be the company’s strategy for the upcoming Galaxy devices. A user on X/Twitter reported that only the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will receive seven years of software updates. Furthermore, he claimed that the Pixel Fold 2 set to debut later this year will receive the same software update support.
Despite the fact that Samsung hasn’t made a formal announcement yet, it is impossible that the business won’t provide the same level of support for a $1800 foldable as it will for its most recent candybar flagships, the smallest of which is only $800 in the USA.

Should the Galaxy Z Flip 6 receive a comparable level of support? Yes, but if we claimed not to be skeptical, that would be a lie. While Galaxy Z Flip smartphones aren’t as expensive as Galaxy S or Z Fold smartphones, they aren’t regarded as flagships either. Although we believe there is a good chance the Z Flip 6 will receive upgrades for seven years, we wouldn’t count on it being a given just yet.
