TikTok is quite famous for its short-form videos. It has gained popularity in recent years and challenged the dominance of other video-sharing platforms like YouTube. Now, the platform is set to take another initiative against YouTube by introducing 30-minute-long videos on the platform. Reportedly, Matt Navarra spotted the new feature on the iOS (beta version) and Android versions of the app in the UK.
Initially, the TikTok platform started with 15-second videos that were later expanded to one minute. In recent years, the platform has permitted video uploads of about three minutes and eventually ten minutes. Furthermore, the company has tried 15-minute movies prior to the 30-minute video limit.
In an effort to attract more users to the platform, the company is testing a 20-minute limit. It might be perceived as a direct rival to YouTube, which permits videos of any length. Opportunities to broadcast whole TV series episodes and other long-form content on TikTok may arise as a result of this expansion. Furthermore, the platform may permit the ability to fast-forward videos by clicking and holding the right side of the video. A few months earlier, the company adopted a similar approach with the 15-minute videos.
Furthermore, TikTok has already made preparations for longer videos by adding a horizontal full-screen mode recently. Currently, there are no details on whether this feature will be rolled out widely or not. Besides this, the company is expanding its presence across the world. ByteDance plans to open new offices in Canada, Australia, and the US. In 2023, the company earned $110 billion, slightly more than what was earned by Tencent Holding.
