What will become of Apple: John Ternus is planning a radical restructuring of the company

Apple’s new CEO John Ternus is planning a comprehensive restructuring of the company. The traditional release cycles should end in order to distribute new devices throughout the year. Ternus is also considering flattening the hierarchies.

Everything is different under new management

A few weeks after the change in leadership, Apple is undergoing a fundamental restructuring. John Ternus, the former hardware boss and successor to Tim Cook, wants to accelerate the development of new devices and slim down the organization. After Information from Bloomberg he has already discussed his plans internally. Customers could soon notice a change: new products should no longer be so tailored to the big presentations in spring and autumn, but should appear more evenly distributed throughout the year.

According to the report, there is also internal discussion about how Apple can react more quickly in the competition for AI technologies. A lot could also change within the group. Ternus is therefore considering reducing the number of hierarchical levels between engineering teams and management. Several program managers recently lost their jobs in the hardware department. There had previously been cuts in the teams for Siri and the Vision Pro data glasses. According to the rumor mill, a more far-reaching plan to cut around 5,000 jobs at AppleCare customer service is on hold for the time being.

More devices in the pipeline than ever before?

While Apple is working on its structure, new product ideas are emerging. For the coming year, the report names, among other things, smart glasses and AirPods with built-in cameras. There is also speculation about MacBooks with touchscreens – a notable departure from the stance of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, who once rejected touch-sensitive computer screens. In addition, Apple is said to be preparing new editions of the HomePod Mini, the iPad Mini and the Apple TV 4K streaming box.

Particular attention is being paid to a redesigned iPhone on the 20th anniversary of its first presentation in 2007. How much of it will actually come onto the market and at what pace remains an open question. The planned conversion affects well-established development processes – and therefore cannot be implemented overnight.
