WhatsApp is currently developing a new user interface for its call screen

Over the last few months, WhatsApp is being continuously updated with new features. Besides this, the app requires several UI designs updates. According to some fresh details, the company is refreshing the UI of call screen. The company has previously tested status previews and the swipeable navigation bar. In 2015, the company debuted the call screen feature. Since then, it has not received any major update.

The current UI of call screen shows a central profile picture preview (audio calls), a back button in the upper left corner, an option to add more participants in the upper right corner, whereas all other controls can be found at the bottom. According to WABetaInfo, the company is testing anew call screen UI within the version 2.23.17.16 of the app.

Within the new version, the Back button is replaced with a Minimize button. It minimizes the voice call to the top bar of the screen. According to TheSpAndroid, there is a change in the bottom bar as well. Instead of a bottom sheet-like design, the company is now using a floating island.

Furthermore, the arrow in the current design has been replaced by a three-dot overflow menu button. As a result, WhatsApp might do away with the swipe-up gesture to open the bottom sheet and move all auxiliary features to an overflow menu. Additionally, each icon in the updated island-style bar has a circular outline of its own.

Additionally, WhatsApp has modified the user interface to request users to transition from voice to video calls. This replaces the circular buttons that required swiping to accept and tapping to decline with pill-shaped buttons that behaved consistently whether tapped to accept or decline. From this aspect, we can assume a change for the incoming voice and video call screen within the app.

Currently there are no details on when these design changes will exit the beta testing phase and make their way to the stable version of the app. Overall, these changes will make the app appear more consistent and functional.
