WhatsApp is reportedly testing a new feature that will enable users to share Voice Messages as status updates

In the past year, we have observed a number of new features introduced to the well-known communication app i.e., WhatsApp. Communities feature was one of the most interesting features. As of now, it seems like WhatsApp is going to add a variety of new features. among those new features, the two notable features are new camera modes and blocking shortcuts. Aside from these features, another interesting feature will also be introduced to the app. As per the latest news, WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will permit users to share voice messages as their status updates.

Presently, users have limited choices with the type of media that could be uploaded on the status. Given this new feature, now the users will have more choices as they could share voice messages as status updates. The new feature was identified by WABetaInfo. According to the source, the feature is in the works for quite a long time. It seems like WhatsApp is working on the development of this feature since July 2022.

Initially, the company is rolling out the new feature update to beta testers. If you are a Beta user, then visit the Play Store to download the latest beta version of WhatsApp. Voice messages can be set as status updates using the same button for sending voice notes. The ‘Send’ button has been substituted with the ‘Mic’ icon. Pressing the Mic button for a long will record the voice message. Of course, this is quite familiar as we use a similar method for sending voice notes in a WhatsApp chat.

The voice message as the status will be visible to every user having permission to view the particular user’s status updates. Note that the feature is end-to-end encrypted. It will be shown for a time span of 24 hours. However, the voice message has a set time limitation i.e., 30 seconds. Another thing to notice here is that users having an old version of WhatsApp won’t have access to hear the voice message presented in the status updates.
