WhatsApp might include email sign-ins, but still your phone number will be needed

In recent years, WhatsApp has made numerous initiatives to improve the security and privacy of your account. For added security, employ two-factor authentication, and encrypt your Google Drive backups. To further safeguard your account from hackers, the Meta-owned messaging service recently implemented Account safeguard and Device Verification. However, due to its popularity, WhatsApp remains a favorite target for scammers and hackers. As an added security safeguard, WhatsApp may soon allow you to enter your email address for account verification.

Your WhatsApp account is now linked to your phone number. You risk losing access to your account if you lose access to your phone number. To avoid this, the messaging service is striving to use your email address for account verification. According to WABetaInfo, this feature will be optional, and because it is still in development, there is little information on when and how it will work.

When your phone has been lost or stolen and you need to log into WhatsApp on a new device, the new security feature could come in handy. In such circumstances, email verification will come in handy. It can also be beneficial when attempting to set up WhatsApp on a new device but failing to receive the verification code due to server or network issues.

When you set up PIN protection for your account on WhatsApp, you can already select an email address. If you can’t remember your PIN, you can reset it using the connected email address.

Select WhatsApp beta users utilizing the v2.23.16.15 release discovered the email verification option. Because the functionality is still in development, it is unlikely to be released to the public anytime soon. In the meantime, check out the WhatsApp privacy options you should enable to improve the security of your account.
