Windows 10 receives new features with optional update

As with Windows 11, Microsoft is also launching new features for Windows 10 through optional updates. With KB5010415, there are now two major innovations for users of Windows 10 versions 21H2, 21H1, and 20H2. The optional update itself appeared a few days ago. As we reported, there is an optional, non-security update for all fully supported Windows 10 versions. This is the March Patch Day preview. Today, however, Microsoft has published the details about this in the Knowledge Base and released the update to anyone who wants to take advantage of it via the optional update.

Contrary to previous practice – and thus different from what we suspected a few days ago – these new Windows 10 builds contain not only bug fixes but also new features. KB5010415 brings cookie sharing between Microsoft Edge’s Internet Explorer mode and Microsoft Edge. Support for adding and removing non-volatile memory (NVMe) namespaces also starts right away. Microsoft has also released these innovations for Windows 11 users.

more changes in the preview

The update brings builds 19042.1561 (Windows 10 20H2), 19043.1561 (21H1), and 19044.1561 (21H2). The Windows team is testing several bug fixes and improvements with this update. We have already published all the details about the fixed bugs in our older KB5010415 update article. There is also an extensive article in the Knowledge Base available at Microsoft If you want to take advantage of the changes now, you can get the update right now.

Optional updates are offered through the Windows Update feature. You’ll need to find and launch it yourself from the “Optional Updates” menu item in the Settings app under Windows Updates for it to load and install. The previews or optional updates correspond to the prerelease versions of Windows previously released as C updates. If nothing is wrong, the bug fixes contained therein will be automatically distributed to all users on patch day in March.
