The Windows 11 2023 Update is now available for download. Better known as version 23H2, installation is incredibly easy for most users. At the same time, installation options are also available for experts – e.g. via ISO file.
Microsoft has long considered automatic updates to be the standard. Especially for the large number of less experienced users, this actually represents a guarantee that they will be able to get the latest Windows version without outside help. However, anyone who has to deal with special requirements will also appreciate that Microsoft also provides the classic installation media.
Anyone who already uses Windows 11 will have the least difficulty receiving the new update. All you need to do is go to Windows Update in the settings. To be on the safe side, you should click on the “ Check for updates ” button again.
The message “Windows 11, version 23H2 is available” should now be displayed if you have caught the first wave of distribution. Clicking on the “ Download and install ” button below will start setting up the Windows 11 2023 update (22H2).
As Microsoft announced, the same applies to users of the previous operating system, Windows 10, as also applies to Windows 11 users: Installation is simply done via Windows Update, which can be found under Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
However, there is a restriction here: the corresponding message only appears here if the hardware meets the higher minimum requirements. This can be checked, among other things, with the PC Health Check.
If the update is not installed automatically or is offered for download after a manual search, the installation wizard for Windows 11 often helps to initiate the 23H2 upgrade directly. You should take this route before thinking about choosing a manual installation using the Media Creation Tool or with ISO files. However, the system requirements mentioned at the beginning also apply here (e.g. TPM 2.0, Secure Boot, etc.) in order to install the Windows 11 2023 update without any obstacles.
In the event that users have a PC with a missing or slow internet connection, or have other difficulties with direct installation via the network, they can use the Media Creation Tool (MCT) provided by Microsoft. This can be used to create a classic installation medium from which the new operating system version can then be installed on a computer.
Users with a little more experience can also work directly with an ISO file provided by Microsoft. This is an image of an installation medium that can either be integrated directly into the file system or transferred to a data storage medium. There are a variety of tools that help with the different variations. This approach is particularly interesting for a completely new installation.
