Windows 11 To Support Android Apps Through Amazon App Store

Microsoft announced today that Windows 11 will be available on October 5th. In the course of this announcement, details of upcoming features were also presented and one or the other update was also delivered – one concerns Android app support.

One of the central points of Windows 11 is a vastly redesigned Microsoft Store. In the future, it will support a whole range of formats, including Android apps. However, these have to get by without Google Play Store support, instead, they come from the Amazon app store. This means that the selection will not be quite as large and that Google’s own apps will also be missing.

Microsoft has never made a public commitment to this, but it was apparently originally planned that this feature should be available when Windows 11 started. However, according to the latest information, this will not be the case.

Delay of several months

Because Microsoft writes in the release date announcement: “We look forward to continuing our journey to bring Android apps to Windows 11 and the Microsoft Store through our collaboration with Amazon and Intel; this will be done in the next few months with a Begin Preview for Windows Insiders. “

For attentive observers, however, this should not come as a big surprise, because so far there have been no indications of how and when this will be implemented. Microsoft has hardly commented on this either, so it was not clear how quickly something like this could actually be implemented.

Because, as mentioned, Microsoft will not host the Android apps directly itself, they will be with Amazon. This is a similar solution to the integration of EA Play into the Xbox Game Pass for PC – and there were some problems here at the beginning, so Microsoft had to postpone the start.
