Windows 11: Users can expect these big innovations in June

The upcoming Windows Patch Day not only brings important security updates, but also practical new functions. In addition to increasing the performance of the operating system, users will in future be able to determine the name of their user folder themselves.

Important update on Patchday

Microsoft will release a comprehensive update for Windows 11 on the monthly Patch Tuesday in June 2026. The software package not only delivers routine bug fixes worldwide, but also integrates numerous new features for end users, as the latest optional May update suggests. At the same time, IT administrators must act quickly if security is to be guaranteed seamlessly. The background to the time pressure is old certificates for Secure Boot from 2011, which will expire on June 24, 2026. Systems that do not receive the current update will lose important protection mechanisms at boot level in the future. Anyone who postponed distribution in May must now treat the June update as a priority to continue to ensure a secure system boot.

More power, shared audio and smart analysis

For normal users, the focus is primarily on the new tools. As Windows Central mentions in summary, Microsoft is introducing, among other things, the low latency profile. This means that the system temporarily increases processor performance during interactions such as opening menus, which is said to shorten start times by up to 40 percent. Older computers in particular should benefit from this boost in performance. Another innovation is shared audio. Thanks to Bluetooth LE Audio technology, users will in future be able to send music or other audio output from the PC to several wireless headphones or speakers at the same time. This is particularly practical for listening to music or watching films together. An icon in the taskbar indicates when the broadcast is active. In addition, Microsoft is expanding the task manager to include detailed metrics for processors with an integrated Neural Processing Unit (NPU). Since NPUs are increasingly becoming standard in modern processors, users will in future be able to precisely monitor the utilization of the hardware for artificial intelligence and the memory used.

More control during setup

Anyone who reinstalls Windows 11 can now set the name of the user folder themselves. With this, Microsoft is fulfilling a long-standing wish of Windows users. Previously, the operating system generated the label automatically from the linked Microsoft account. The update also optimizes the Windows Biometric service. This should make logging in via facial recognition or fingerprint via Windows Hello noticeably faster after standby.

The June update for Windows 11 is rounded off by smaller detail improvements. Users benefit from targeted adjustments to file management and personalization. Windows search now also finds files with only two characters in the name. In the future, the storage size of drives can be specified in gigabytes. In addition, the color adjustment for desktop backgrounds now works noticeably more precisely. The update will be rolled out next Tuesday, June 9, 2026. Microsoft is pursuing a strategy of staggered distribution. This means that not all new functions will be available to every user immediately, but may only be gradually activated in the coming weeks.
