Windows 11 V21H2 Update Support To End Soon

With the July patch day, an important change period begins for users of the initial Windows 11 version: Microsoft will only provide the Windows 11 version 21H2 with security updates until October – then it’s over.

The regular support period for the first Windows 11 version ends on October 10, 2023, after two years. Updates after this period will only be available for the Enterprise, Education, IoT Enterprise, and Enterprise Multi-Session editions.

End users who use Windows 11 Home, Pro, Pro Education, or Pro for Workstations will then no longer be supplied. This means that as a user of one of these editions, you should now check within the next three months whether you can switch to Windows 11 Version 22H2 and carry out the update.

Check for upgrade

Alternatively, you should look around to see whether it is possible to switch to new, fully supported hardware. Windows 11 upgrade eligibility can be checked using the PC Health Check app, for example.

Forced updates are coming

Microsoft has already informed us about the upcoming end of support in a new article. After the end of the service date, affected Windows 11 devices with the above Home and Pro editions will no longer receive security and monthly quality updates with fixes and patches for newly discovered bugs and security issues. As the Bleeping Computer reports, Microsoft is now starting the so-called “forced updates”.

Windows 11 version 22H2 has been generally available for all Windows devices that meet the eligibility criteria since last October. Microsoft is now enforcing the installation of this update on systems currently running Windows 11 21H2.
