Windows 11: You Can Drag Folders And Shortcuts Onto The Task Bar

Microsoft has equipped its upcoming Windows 11 operating system with a new taskbar. Until now it was not possible to drag folders or shortcuts directly to the taskbar. Microsoft listened to user feedback and reinstalled the feature.

This comes from an animation published by the Twitter user @NTAuthority. The clip shows a folder on the desktop that is imported into an open program. All you have to do is drag the icon onto the corresponding symbol in the system tray. Then the window with the application opens so that the user can choose where the directory should go. The video shows how a folder can be moved to the registry editor using the function.

Feature also included in Windows 10

Anyone who uses the current Redmond operating system should already be familiar with the feature. Microsoft had the option of dragging and dropping a folder to an app listed in the taskbar, which was already built into Windows 10. Since the developers completely redesigned the taskbar in Windows 11, the function was initially not implemented here. Some users criticized this, so Microsoft decided to deliver the feature with an update. This is to prevent users from loading the old Windows Explorer in order to be able to use the functions again.

It is unclear when the option will be integrated into the final version of Windows 11. At the moment, the feature is not yet activated by default in the Insider builds. The option of dragging and dropping folders into the bar must be activated via a detour. According to the report, it is conceivable that Microsoft will soon test the function in the dev channel. The option could then be ported back to Windows 11 22000.
