Windows 365: Office installation disrupted for many users after update

Trouble for Windows 365 users: The installation of Microsoft Office is currently causing problems. A faulty update is said to be to blame – but a solution is still a long time coming. What you can do now.

Windows 365 affected

Some users of Microsoft’s cloud PC service Windows 365 are currently facing unexpected problems as the installation of Microsoft Office fails. This is what ds reports Bleeping Computer online magazine. Windows 365 is one of Microsoft’s strategic offerings for businesses. Instead of classic local computers, users access virtual Windows PCs over the Internet that run in the Azure cloud. Applications and data are streamed – actually a concept that promises flexibility and easy management. But this is exactly where there is currently a weak point.

According to an internal service note, the cause is an incorrect configuration change that made its way into the systems with a recent update. This change affects the download and installation of Office on the affected Cloud PCs. Microsoft encountered the problem earlier this week officially admitted. The company is currently working on a correction. However, deploying the solution will take time. Microsoft says that validation and rollout of the fix must be done gradually. A specific date for the full fix is still pending, but a further update is expected shortly.

It is unclear how many users are affected. Microsoft classified the incident as “advisory” – a category that typically indicates issues with a limited scope. At the same time, however, it is said that basically any Windows 365 user who is currently trying to install Office could be affected. There is at least a pragmatic way out for affected users: the Office installation can be temporarily initiated manually via the Microsoft 365 website. This can ensure the use of the applications until the automatic provisioning works smoothly again.
