Steam Germany: Valve blocks around 900 games including Borderlands titles

At the end of April, around 900 games disappeared from the German Steam store. Among them is a prominent victim from publisher 2K. The reason for the current wave of bans probably lies in the German regulations for the protection of minors.

Steam blocks hundreds of games

It happens again and again that games disappear from Steam. Sega, for example, removed over 60 classics from Valve’s platform some time ago. A few days ago, Disney also removed 15 titles from the Steam store. On April 29, 2026, Valve removed around 900 PC games from the German shop. The company is therefore likely to continue to implement its stricter youth protection measures announced at the end of 2024. Titles without a valid age rating may neither be publicly displayed nor advertised in this country. In addition to many unknown productions, well-known projects are also affected by the current wave of lockdowns.

Popular titles are disappearing

User derpystuff_ created one using SteamDB List of affected games compiled and them on Reddit divided. The most prominent victim of the current deletion campaign is the title Tales from the Borderlands from publisher 2K. The game belongs with one Metacritic rating of 85 points one of the best-rated offshoots in the entire series. The reasons for the lack of release for Tales from the Borderlands lie in the history of the responsible development studio.

Telltale Games filed for bankruptcy a few years ago and completely restructured itself. Since the original team no longer exists, it appears that no one submitted the required child protection documents. Without intervention from the publisher 2K, the game will probably remain permanently inaccessible in the German store. However, if you already have Tales from the Borderlands in your library, you can still download and start it without any problems. However, new customers now have to switch to other platforms such as GOG. Alternatively, you have the option of having friends from abroad send affected games to your account as a digital gift.
