Xbox 25th Anniversary Kit – Mattel brings the original console 1:1
After Mattel brought a terminal block model of the Xbox 360 onto the market in 2023, the next project will follow. Just in time for the 25th anniversary of the Microsoft console, a replica of the first Xbox will be released on September 30, 2026.
Return of the original Xbox as a kit
The 1:1 scale set is aimed at adult collectors. In addition to the console, the classic Duke controller is included. The kit with the model number HYL44 consists of a total of 3509 individual parts and is a non-binding one Recommended retail price of 329.99 euros. An integrated sound module plays the console’s original start sequence at the push of a button. Various lighting effects can be activated using the controller. A hidden key combination triggers another light sequence.
According to PC games, the interior of the console hides three removable dioramas. The model shows well-known scenes from the following video games:
To bring the worlds to life, the package includes twelve NanoWorld figures.
Attention to detail with a large space requirement
The high level of detail is achieved thanks to the original size. The 1:1 scale requires shelf space. With a total weight of around 8.4 kilograms and the corresponding dimensions, the set is massive. The previous model of the Xbox 360 was more compact with 1342 parts in a 3:4 scale. The included replica of the Duke controller brings back memories. The original input device was known for its enormous size and was quickly replaced by a smaller model in Japan. Microsoft later established the more compact version as the standard worldwide. In the current set, the massive controller serves as a remote control for the integrated functions.
The official presentation of the terminal block model will take place at Gamescom 2026 in Cologne. Microsoft is celebrating a quarter of a century of its hardware division there. In line with this, the company is launching a real Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition in transparent green on the market in November. The design is a direct homage to the very first console.
Presentation and availability
The original Xbox was released in North America in 2001 and in Europe the following year. At the time, it competed directly with the PlayStation 2 and the GameCube. It was the first console with an integrated hard drive, which made it possible to save games without external memory cards. The new kit celebrates this history.
