Xiaomi introduces prototype AR glasses at MWC 2023

One of the trendy catchphrases at MWC 2023 is augmented reality [AR]. Several tech companies consider AR as the future. For this reason, various companies have joined the chorus. Xiaomi is one recent example. At MWC 2023, the company reportedly introduced the Xiaomi Wireless AR Glass Discovery Edition. These glasses can pair with a smartphone wirelessly. They are connected by utilizing an NFC tap. When connected, the user can view the real world with controls and information presented on the top.

Considering the hardware perspective, the glasses consist of thick black frames. The frames are accompanied by high-resolution micro-LED lenses. These lenses provide the AR experience. They are presented with 1,200 nits peak brightness and offer a “retina-level” experience. moreover, the battery is made of a silicon-oxygen anode variety. For this, it is smaller in contrast to the traditional lithium-ion batteries utilized in most electronics these days. Thus, accounting for the glasses to be relatively light at just 126 grams. It is powered by the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 1 processor.

The AR glasses are presented with hand-tracking cameras. Users can utilize their hand gestures to handle the AR controls. For instance, turning pages of a book, moving text boxes and control panels around the surrounding, and even pressing virtual buttons. Besides this, the camera presents the glasses with a context-aware experience as well. Let’s say using AR glasses users can turn the smart lights on or off. The device will have an idea about the position and location of the user within their home. They have the capacity to automatically connect to the smart light. Users can just turn the light on by using their fingers from the other side of the room.

Besides this, the most interesting feature of the device is the electrochromic glass that covers the exterior lenses. Users can push a button and darken their glasses. Thus, providing a more immersive experience with work, watching videos, and helping focus. Sadly, the company has not shared other details. Well, this is just a prototype we don’t know whether the device makes its appearance in the commercial space or not. Although the device is unique in its functionality.
