YouTube is testing a new color for the progress bar on its Android app

YouTube is the largest video streaming platform in the world. According to 9to5Gogle, it is currently testing a new feature on its Android app. Reportedly, YouTube is testing a grey-colored progress bar. Presently, the feature is available just in the beta version of the app. As of now, just a few users have reported the latest progress bar. Thus, indicating that the modification is restricted to A/B testing.

When the users enable the dark mode for the bar, only then the new progress bar color appears. Furthermore, it is displayed when a video is playing in portrait mode. The color of the progress bar changes to red as soon as the user interacts with it or when the dark mode is switched off. It indicates that Google is testing this modification to lessen the distraction while using the app in low-light conditions.

Aside from this new color, the rest of the app is presented with the same set of colors that it had earlier. However, we could expect the progress bar to be the initial element receiving the dark-mode treatment. The rest of the app might stay the same with the old look. That being said, it could be just one of the many experiments by Google. Where most of such features have made their way to the stable version of the app.

Recently, Google redesigned the YouTube app. The aim was to introduce a translucent background surrounding the video player area, pill-shaped icons, and containers for comments. Some of these changes were also introduced to the YouTube app on smart TVs.
