Almost every music streaming app has a premium, paid version that provides a far superior experience than the free version. The same is true for YouTube Music Premium, which gives you extensive exposure to the application. If you are unable to buy the premium version, the one with added support is not too bad. If you are willing to handle some ads and a few pop-up menus, you can peacefully enjoy the variety of music in the app’s library. However, ad-supported services like Spotify are giving them tough competition. In spite of all this, Google is thinking about giving its non-paid customers a better experience with its applications.
The YouTube team polled users on Twitter about the features they want to see in an update to compete with ad-supported tiers. Currently, they have offered four choices:
From the poll results, background play was the option most users voted for. Non-premium users’ criticism is not meant to be offensive. The users of the ad-supported version in Canada already have their hands on the feature, and we are hoping it expands out into the state.
It seems that the option of background play is the only reason for users to switch to premium mode. Reconsidering the non-paid version as quite a hell for non-premium users, Google is actually trying to turn it into a better experience.
If the Twitter poll was successful, there is a lot more for users to gain by upgrading to the premium version. We are really hoping the updated version will be a better experience for non-paid users.
