Twitter is blocking links to Mastodon.

A recent alternative took place on Twitter. Twitter is restricting its users from tweeting the links that are connected to the main servers of Mastodon. The restriction was implemented at some point during the frantic Thursday afternoon on the platform, which saw the sudden suspension of reporters’ accounts as well as Mastodon’s own.

Many Mastodon links will fail to tweet, and an error notice will appear reading, “We can’t complete this request because this link has been flagged by Twitter or our partners as potentially hazardous.” Links to the original mastodon, Social Server, and more than ten other domains that The Verge tested are currently being blocked by Twitter.

The decision to block Mastodon comes in response to the recent uproar around the @ElonJet account, which tracks the movements of Twitter’s owner, Elon Musk’s private jet. Twitter shut down the @ElonJet Twitter account on Wednesday. Shortly after, it shut down the manager’s personal account as well. A new rule that prohibits sharing another person’s live location has also been implemented by Twitter.

Mastodon’s account was blocked on Thursday for an unknown reason. The blockage of the account happened sometime after it posted a link to @ElonJet’s page on Mastodon.

Twitter immediately responded by demanding a request for an opinion. Although the matter was resolved in the office of the press, Mastodon ignored the request for comment and hasn’t said anything about it yet.
