DAZN Cheapest subscription now 3x as expensive, and no World package

The provider of sports streams hasn’t made too many friends in the past few months. Now the cheapest subscription model is being abolished. Anyone who wants to book DAZN from now on will pay at least three times as much as before.
Streaming provider cancels entry-level subscription
How DWDL reports, Dazn has tweaked its offer again. The previously cheapest “World” package is no longer offered as a booking option on the streaming portal’s website. The package, which cost customers ten euros per month and seven euros per month for an annual subscription, is no longer available to new customers with immediate effect. Nothing will change for existing customers who use the World subscription. Due to the elimination of the World package, there are now only two booking options available.
On the one hand, there is the “Unlimited” package, which also includes, among other things, the Bundesliga and the Champions League games. It costs 45 euros per month or 35 euros if paid annually. If you want to stream on several devices at the same time, you have to pay an additional 20 euros per month.
The second package still available is the “Super Sports” subscription. It costs 25 euros per month or 20 euros if paid annually. The number of sports included is significantly smaller here. Simultaneous streams are generally not possible.
Justification with free offer
Anyone who is now interested in Dazn as a new customer will pay at least three times as much as before, even if they book the cheapest subscription on offer. The provider partly justifies this step by saying that some content can now also be seen free of charge on other channels such as Dazn Darts x Pluto TV.
The women’s football broadcasts included in the “World” package could also be viewed free of charge. Therefore, a cheap starter package for ten euros no longer makes much sense, according to the streaming provider.
Several lawsuits over price increases
In practical terms, this step amounts to a further price increase for new customers. Prices for existing customers have also risen massively in recent years. While the subscription cost twelve euros in 2021, new customers paid 30 euros a year later. In 2023, the Unlimited subscription finally cost 45 euros per month.
A lawsuit filed by consumer advocates for this reason was successful in court in December 2024. The Munich Higher Regional Court confirmed parts of the Dazn terms of use as unlawful. Whether existing customers will receive a possible refund is currently being negotiated in another trial before the Hamm Higher Regional Court.
