GTA 5 dominates the streaming world on Twitch

With 1.4 billion spectators lessons, GTA 5 remains the undisputed king on Twitch. We clarify why an eleven-year-old game dominates the streaming world, while popular titles like League of Legends and Valorant are left behind. The key is in the community.
Rockstar’s long -running favorite dominates Twitch
Grand Theft Auto 5 also asserts itself in 2024 as the most watched game on Twitch. As the Amazon subsidiary announced, more than 1.4 billion hours of GTA 5 gameplay were viewed worldwide. This performance is particularly noteworthy because the open world game has been on the market since 2013 and has now been released for PC and three generations of console.
The streaming platform recorded a total of 15.6 billion hours of prestigious gaming content, whereby GTA V is at the top at a clear distance. Streamer (Content Creator) broadcast around 25.8 million hours of the Rockstar title last year.

Shooters and Mobas follow by far
In the other places, League of Legends follow with 1.19 billion spectators, Valorant with 804 million, Fortnite with 539 million and Call of Duty with 451 million hours. In Germany, the picture deviates slightly – here League of Legends lies in first place before GTA 5.
The game classic Minecraft also remains an important factor in the streaming area worldwide with 379 million hours of viewers worldwide. Twitch was also able to strengthen his position as market leader in live streaming with a share of more than 60 percent in the gaming content seen online and consolidate an average of over 105 million monthly visitors.
Role play server as a guarantee of success
The continued success of GTA 5 on Twitch is largely due to the popularity of the role-playing servers (RP server). These modified servers make it possible to slip into the role of different characters and to experience complex social interactions in the game world.
Server such as Nopixel, Eclipse RP and the Family RP, which have established their own rules, economic systems and even police and judicial systems, are particularly well known. Many well-known streamers such as XQC, Summit1G and Lirik have attracted millions of spectators through their GTA-RP streams. The resulting stories and dramas between the characters ensure fresh content, although the basic game has been unchanged for over a decade. Grand Theft Auto 6 – Rockstar Games officially introduces GTA 6
Loud Polygon the persistent success of GTA 5 is probably also due to the anticipation to the successor. Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) is scheduled to appear in autumn 2025 and is one of the most eagerly awaited game publications of the year. Until then, GTA 5, especially through the popular role-playing servers in GTA Online, should continue to generate high numbers of spectators.
Vtuber in the upswing
An interesting trend is emerging at “Vtubern” – streamers who use virtual avatars instead of their own face. With 1.1 billion spectator lessons, this category recorded growth of 10 percent compared to the previous year. In the EMEA region, the number of spectators even rose by 57 percent, with Great Britain recording the strongest growth with an increase of 200 percent.
