Windows 11 Overtakes Windows 10 in Global User Share for the First Time

According to the current user numbers, more users used Windows 11 for the first time in July 2025 than Windows 10. However, the adaptation rate of the newer of the two Microsoft operating systems is very different.

This week Windows 10 celebrated his tenth birthday. While Nvidia has just announced that current GPU drivers will be available for the operating system until 2026, Microsoft is known to end regular support on October 14 this year. In view of this, the company from Redmond has stirred vigorously in the past few months to move users to switch to Windows 11.
As the number of users showed in the past few months, a large part was still not ready to change. But something happened in July. Because the wax release in Windows has been completed. Last month, more users used Windows 11 than Windows 10 worldwide for the first time. This development had already indicated in June when the market share of Windows 11 had risen rapidly. Now Windows 11 has finally taken the lead.

Extended support
End consumers who do not want to change the operating system or who cannot change due to their hardware until the cut -off date in October have the option of obtaining extended security updates free of charge. This means that support for Windows 10 can still be extended until October 13, 2026. The registration assistant used for this is to be rolled out to Windows 10 users in the course of the August. In order to take advantage of the offer, however, the use of a Microsoft account is necessary.
