TSMC Employees Arrested in Taiwan for Alleged Theft of 2nm Chip Secrets

In Taiwan, several people from the area around the world’s largest contractor have recently arrested for semiconductor products TSMC. They are said to have stolen business secrets around the production of 2-nanometer chips and thus endangered the national security of Taiwan.

TSMC noticed unusual activities

The Taiwan public prosecutor announced the arrest of three people today after the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) had reported suspicion of the theft of business secrets with reference to certain key technologies. TSMC goes out loud CNBC assumed that an earlier and two current employees had “illegally” access to business secrets. The information would refer to nuclear technologies that develops TSMC and gives advantages not only in the area of chip technologies worldwide, but also at the political level.

TSMC initially noticed “unusual access to internal files in his staff” in July. In the further course, evidence was then collected and witnesses were interviewed, which is why the public prosecutor now assumes that the three suspects have most likely violated Taiwan’s law on national security. The chip giant, who recently had a share of 67 percent in the market for the manufacture of semiconductor products, includes Apple, Nvidia, Google, Meta, Amazon, AMD, Intel, Qualcomm and various other known companies that have their state -of -the -art chips produced there.

It is also TSMC where Nvidia has all of its coveted AI chips manufactured. In a statement, TSMC said that rigorous disciplinary measures had been initiated against the employees involved. The company initially did not provide any details of the technology affected by the “Leak” of business secrets. However, observers assume that it was primarily about the new generation of high-end chips, for which TSMC will soon start to manufacture with a structural width of only two nanometers.
