iPhone 18 Pro teardown: Repairs are now becoming more complicated again

Look into the new Apple smartphone
Apple has reduced the size of the hole for the sensors, known as the Dynamic Island. The infrared camera for Face ID facial recognition is now placed under the screen in the upper left corner. A special pixel pattern allows the infrared light to pass through. There are also changes to the temperature control. The A20 Pro processor is now directly connected to a steam chamber. According to the manufacturer, the component is three times larger than the direct predecessor model. A new thermal pad connects the chip to the cooling system. This is intended to improve heat dissipation during computing-intensive tasks, which is particularly important for modern mobile games or complex image editing on smartphones.
The misplaced infrared camera makes it extremely difficult for third parties to produce replacement displays. In addition, the NAND memory and the integrated circuit for the power supply are now sandwiched between several motherboard layers. In order to access these components, the layers must be separated in a complex manner. An unprotected EEPROM chip on the surface increases the risk of physical damage during tampering. What is positive, however, is that the flex cable for the charging port has been reduced from two to one cable.
Camera and battery in detail
The disassembled model has a physical slot for the SIM card, as is also offered on the German market. The battery in this version has a capacity of 4056 milliamp hours and is therefore slightly larger than its immediate predecessor. An enlarged connection cable plug indicates a higher charging performance. The interior also shows the new main camera with 48 megapixels, which is equipped with a variable aperture.
