Messenger app: The new jab at Snapchat
Facebook is now the social media platform that jumped to the bandwagon of videos that disappear after 24 hours. Social media platform introduced a new feature on Thursday for Messenger app. The Messenger app lets you tell stories of how your day is going as a part of the status update. This feature is very similar to what Whatsapp launched in the previous days.
The feature on Messenger is called Messenger Day which provides an easy, one-swipe access to the phone camera that snaps or films whatever the user has going around in the world around them at that very specific moment. There are thousands of stickers and effects to make your photo more decorative.
Messenger app plans to add more features to the platform
Like snapchat, once your art is complete the user can send it to their friend or five people. They can add it to their story as well which shows up at the top of the Messenger home screen. These are just some of the several things you can do with the snaps. One security feature of this is that you can see the people who see your story. This way not everyone of your distant acquaintances and relatives have the access to snoop around your life. Whatsapp however has no security feature to keep snoopy relatives at bay. The pictures will destruct after 24 hours so you have room to make new memories with a whole lot of adventures.
Facebook has introduced many features over the last few years. Most of these features are very similar to the ones on Snapchat. It should be noted that Facebook tried and failed to buy Snapchat. Snapchat rocked its Wall Street debut by introducing the disappearing photo and video feature back in 2013. At that time it was one of a kind app that allowed people to add snippets of their daily life into videos in chronological order. Instagram live and stories was a feature added last year by Facebook on the platform. It is accessible at the top of the app’s home screen and through individual profiles.

“The way people want to share today is different than it was five or ten years ago,” said Facebook in a statement explaining this strategy. “Communication is becoming more visual than ever, and people want lightweight, easy ways to share throughout the day.”
Messenger Day is available on iOS and Android. You can also update the messenger app to access the feature.
